Chaetodon collare

Chaetodon collare, commonly known as the Redtail butterflyfish, is a medium-sized butterflyfish. Their body is brown to sometimes purplish and have a large scale pattern with contrasting yellow especiially pronounced in the dorsal fin. The caudal and part of the anal fin are orange to red and all three fins have black and white rims (and the dorsal fin a red rim as well) On their head they've black and white vertical stripes with the last white bar being especially pronounced.

These fish are quite peaceful to most other fish, but might haress similar looking fish. As juveniles they live in esturies, once mature they form pair or small groups around coral reefs. In an aquarium they can best be kept alone unless a proven pair can be found. They're real omnivores feeding on all sort of worms and crustaceans, but they're also facultative corallivores, meaning they do eat coral polyps, but don't need corals to survive. This makes them a risk in a reef tank, but a perfect pick for a fish-only tank! Feed them a varied diet of live and frozen meaty foods to make them thrive!
