Chaetodon flavirostris

Chaetodon flavirostris, commonly known as the Black butterflyfish, is a medium-sized butterflyfish. Their base colour is very dark grey, almost blackish except for a wegde shaped part under the dorsal fin that looks more orange. The dorsal, caudal and anal fin are all yellow with an orange continous stripe running through it and a dark brown edge.  They've the typical butterflyfish dark eye patch and orange in front of that and a white mouth. 

These fish are quite peaceful to most other fish, but might haress similar looking fish. They can be found solitary, but usually live as pairs in a wide variety of habitats, from coral rich to algae rich rocky areas and even can be found in brackish waters. In an aquarium they can best be kept alone unless a proven pair can be bought. They're real omnivores feeding on all sort of benthic invertebrates and algae, but they're also facultative corallivores, meaning they do eat, but don't need corals. This makes them a risk in a reef tanks though, but a perfect pick for a fish-only tank! Feed them a varied diet of live and frozen meaty foods, but make sure to also include algae based foods like pellets and flakes, to make them really happy!
