Chaetodon ocellatus

Chaetodon ocellatus, commonly known as the Spotfin butterflyfish, is a medium-sized butterflyfish. Their base colour is pure white during the day, but at night they develop a little darker colours for camouflage. All around the white body, dorsal fin, caudal fin, anal fin, belly and pectoral fins and parts of the face as well as just behind the gill cover, the fish is bright yellow. Through the eyes runs a dark black vertical stripe and in the dorsal fin are also one or two dark spots.

These fish are quite peaceful to most other fish, but might haress similar looking fish. They live solitary or in pairs in shallow coral reefs with clear water. In an aquarium they can best be kept alone unless a proven pair can be found. They're omnivores feeding on all sort of invertebrates, but they're also facultative corallivores, meaning they do eat, but don't need corals.This makes them a risk in a reef tank, but a perfect pick for a fish-only tank! Feed them a varied diet of live and frozen meaty foods to make them thrive!
