Chaetodon plebeius

Chaetodon plebeius, commonly known as the Blueblotch butterflyfish, is a small butterflyfish. Their body is bright yellow with a black vertical stripe with thin blue outlines through the eye and a black spot on the caudal fin base, also with some blue around it. On their body they've countless spots forming hoirzontal lines. On their body is also the blue patch which gave them their common name.

These fish are quite peaceful to most other fish, but might haress similar looking fish. They live mostly in pairs in lagoons and on the outer reefs where Acropora are numberous. In an aquarium they can best be kept alone unless a proven pair can be found. They're obligate corallivores, meaning they feed mainly on corals (mainly Acropora) and do need them to stay healthy. This makes them not suitable for a fish-only tank and they will do best in a large reef tank stocked with fast growing Acropora, but do keep in mind that they will do considerable damage to these corals! A real specialist fish!
