Pectinia spp., commonly known as Cactus Coral or Plate Coral, are colonial stony corals known for their irregular, ridged, and highly textured growth forms. Their corallites develop along raised ridges and valleys, creating a distinctive cactus-like appearance. Colors can include green, brown, cream, pink, purple, and orange, often with contrasting ridges or fluorescent highlights under blue reef lighting. Their unusual structure and vibrant coloration make them an attractive addition to reef aquariums.

Care in Aquariums:

• Lighting: Moderate

• Flow: Moderate, indirect and turbulent flow

• Placement: Lower to middle rockwork; provide stable placement and good water movement

• Feeding: Primarily photosynthetic but benefits from occasional small meaty foods or fine particulate coral food

• Space: Allow plenty of room for growth and polyp expansion; provide distance from aggressive neighboring corals

• Handling: Handle carefully to avoid damaging the delicate ridges and tissue along the coral surface
