Galaxea spp., commonly known as Galaxy Coral, are colonial stony corals known for their branching, encrusting, or massive growth forms and distinctive elongated corallites. Their polyps can extend well beyond the skeleton, giving the coral a soft, flowing appearance when fully expanded. Colors can include green, brown, cream, gray, and pink, often with contrasting mouths and fluorescent highlights under blue lighting. Their attractive texture, strong polyp extension, and vibrant coloration make them a striking addition to reef aquariums.

Care in Aquariums:

• Lighting: Moderate to high

• Flow: Moderate, indirect flow

• Placement: Lower to middle rockwork; provide stable placement and good water movement

• Feeding: Primarily photosynthetic but benefits from occasional small meaty foods or fine particulate coral food

• Space: Allow plenty of room for full polyp extension; keep it well separated from neighboring corals due to its long sweeper tentacles

• Handling: Handle carefully and avoid contact with the extended polyps, as Galaxea can deliver a strong sting
