Ecsenius gravieri
Ecsenius gravieri, commonly known as the Red Sea mimic blenny, is a small blenny that mimics Meiacanthus nigrolineatus to avoid predators. Just like M. nigrolineatus the front part of their body is blueish and the back yellowish with a thin black horizontal line from the eye towards the caudal fin where it ends in aligned spots. They also have some black markings in the dorsal fin and the best way to tell them apart from M. nigrolineatus is the shape of the head.
These fish are usually found solitary in shallow coastal waters In an aquarium be sure to have rocks with small holes they can hide in before introducing them. In a very large aquarium multiple blennies is possible as long as enough territories can be formed, but in a small tank they can best be kept alone or as a proven pair. They feed mainly on zooplankton and can best be fed with live and frozen food like copepods, artemia and small gammarus, but usually will learn to feed on high quality flakes and pellets as well!
