Coradion chrysozonus

Coradion chrysozonus, commonly known as the Eyespot coradion, is a small butterflyfish which looks very similar to C. muelleri and a bit like the more well-known C. rostratus. Their base colour is white with 4 vertical bands that are orange in the dorsal fin and more rusty brown on the body till black in the pelvic fins. The middle two bands are close to eachother and the last one is very broad. They've a black spot in the beginning of the dorsal fin and an eye-spot in the back of the dorsal fin which unlike the very similar looking C. altivelis doesn't fade over time.

These fish are quite peaceful, to most other fish, but might haress similar looking fish. These fish are quite shy in nature and when first introduced in a tank, so they can best be introduced before active and/or large fish are introduced. They live usually solitary or in pairs in from inshore to outer drop-offs in areas with rich and spare coral growth. In an aquarium they can best be kept alone unless a proven pair can be found. Not much is known about these fish but they're most likely real omnivores feeding on algae and all kind of small invertebrates like crustaceans and worms. But sponges likely form a large portion of their diet as well. They are known to nip on corals from time to time but usually don't do real damage. Make sure to offer them a varied diet of meaty and algae based foods and these fish will thrive in your tank!
