Cirripectes castaneus

Cirripectes castaneus, commonly known as the Chestnut eyelash-blenny, is a small blenny. Their colour is very variable. In the shop it will most likely be dull brown with some barely visible vertical stripes. But once settled it can show a beautiful yellowish-green with dark vertical stripes.

These fish inhabit shallow outer reefs where they live in small loose groups. In an aquarium they're reef safe and a very good algae eater. They can be territorial though, so only put multiple C. castaneus in one tank if the tank is big enough to form multiple territories and leave room for the other fishes. Don't combine them with other blennies, unless you've a very large tank with many hiding spots. They feed mainly on algae and small invertebrates, so if there is little algae in the tank high quality algae flakes or pellets should be supplemented!
