Arothron citrinellus (Full yellow)

Arothron citrinellus, commonly known as the Yellow blackspotted puffer, is a beautiful medium-sized pufferfish. They’ve a bright yellow colour with a variable amount of small blackspots. They’ve black eyes and some black in the fins and around the mouth. This fish is often considered a synonym of A. nigropunctatus which would mean they can range from white to grey to orangish-yellow. And specimens with a mix of colours are known.

Pufferfishes are very intelligent fish and will quickly learn to recognize you and your behaviour. Their intelligence and behaviour make you soon treat these animals more like a dog than a fish. Combined with the unusual shape, they make up a showpiece in every tank!

Remember they aren’t reef safe though! They feed on crustaceans, molluscs, sponges, tunicates, algae and corals (especially Acropora tips, but no coral is considered safe when hungry). It can be aggressive towards other fish, so make sure you pick the other fishes with care!
