Soleichthys heterorhinos

Soleichthys heterorhinos, commonly known as the Black-tip sole, is small/medium sole. Their base colour ranges from grey-brown to yellowish with many darker vertical bands with blacks rims. The stripes are usually darker in the fins, especially in and close to the caudal fin. The unpaired fins are often blueish. But their colours are very variable and dependent on the surrounding. They’re much darker if black sand is used for example.

These fish are only suitable for an experienced aquarist with a decent sized tank with enough open space and a sand substrate thick enough for the flounder to burry himself in. Be careful combining them with anything that can fit their mouth and also be aware they can become aggressive to other bottom dwelling fishes. When young, they can be fed a variety of meaty foods, but once they mature they need to eat mainly salt water fish to really thrive!
