Description

Bodianus pulchelles, commonly known as the Spot fin hogfish, is a medium sized wrasse/hogfish. As juveniles they’re entirely yellow with a black spot in the dorsal fin. As they mature, they become bright red with white on the throat which flows over in the body. The upper half of the caudal fin and anterior part of the body are bright red. To finish this beautiful fish off, the fins have a very thin blue rim.

Do pick your tankmates carefully because they can become very shy when housed with dominant species and can become dominant themselves towards small fishes or other wrasses.

Juveniles do act as cleaner fish to larger fishes, but when they mature they feed mainly on small crabs, worms and shellfish. Try foods like brine shrimps and mysis when they're not eating well. Later on you can wean them on frozen food and probably even dry food. Be careful with small shrimps, snails or tubeworms because they can consider them as food!
