Description

The Balling method, named after Hans-Werner Balling, uses two basic substances, calcium chloride CaCl2 and sodium hydrogen carbonate NaHC03, to add calcium and carbonate hardness to the seawater. The calcium ion binds with the hydrogen carbonate ion, which increases the calcium content and the carbonate hardness. As a by-product, sodium clings to chloride and results in sodium chloride (table salt), the main component of sea salt. Since continuous addition of the two components leads to an increase in the sodium chloride content and thus an ion shift, a sea salt free of sodium chloride (i.e. only the trace elements of the sea salt) must be added as the third component. Use Preis-Mineral-Salz to counteract an ion shift, check your salt density regularly; Depending on the amount added, a little less sea salt has to be dissolved when changing the water. The "more" in sea salt results from the amount of sodium chloride and the trace element solution with price mineral salt. The 3 salts price calcium chloride dihydrate, price sodium hydrogen carbonate and price mineral salt are each in 2 liters. Osmosis water dissolved in separate containers with the following amounts calculated on 2 ltr. Osmosis water 144 g price calcium chloride dihydrate; 163.8 g of price sodium hydrogen carbonate; 48.75 g of price mineral salt The initial dose is 100 ltr. Aquarium water added 50 ml of each solution daily. It is important to put the 3 solutions in different places in the aquarium that have a good flow. Metering pumps have also proven their worth here. First, measure your calcium content and carbonate hardness daily. These should only increase slowly. If the increase is too rapid, reduce the dosage; if the increase is too small, increase the dosage. (Daily increase not more than 10% of the original value). When you have reached your desired value, a weekly dose of all three components is usually sufficient. Please note, however, that your aquarium is also subject to strong fluctuations, so a new stocking, water change, strong evaporation in summer, strong growth of calcareous red algae, changes in the addition of trace elements and seasonal changes can lead to fluctuations in the values.
