Description

Pomacanthus navarchus, commonly known as the Majestic angelfish, is a medium/large angelfish. As juveniles they're black with blue vertical stripes which are almost straight but toward the head more bend backwards. Some stripes are dark blue, some light blue and the back of these fishes is a little orangish brown. As with most angelfishes, their adult appearance is totally different and this fish is known for changing pattern fast! Their adult pattern can best be described as dark blue with a large orange saddle which continuous in the dorsal and caudal fin and also the mouth and throat area. Between the orange and blue are electric blue lines and the saddle is covered in dark blue spots. In their anal fin are also some electric blue spot. All the fins have an electric blue rim as well, as if this fish wasn't flashy enough.

Like all other angelfish it's hermaphroditic and the most dominant fish will turn into a male when there is no other male around. If you do consider adding them to your tank, do keep in mind that although the navarchus is one of the more mellow Pomacanthus, they can be quite dominant towards other angelfishes.
Most angelfish are not really reef safe and this one is no exception. As juveniles they mainly eat filamentous algae, but as adults sponges and tunicates are a staple part of their diet. Keeping them well fed seems to reduce the risk, so make sure to feed them a proper varied diet of algae and meaty foods to make them really happy. But do keep in mind that they may sooner or later start nipping/eating all sorts of corals (especially Zoanthus, LPS and clams). SPS is usually left alone or only nipped occasionally. So either use mainly SPS corals or avoid corals at all and place this fish in a fish-only tank.

This fish is Tank Bred and will adapt to your aquarium easier compared to a wild caught specimen!
