Pomacanthus annularis, commonly known as the Bluering angelfish, is a large angelfish. As juveniles they're black with blue vertical stripes which are bend slightly backwards on their back and belly. Some stripes are lighter, almost white in colour. As with most angelfishes, their adult appearance is totally different. Their caudal fin becomes white with a yellow rim on the end. Their base colour ranges from greenish yellow to brownish orange. On their body they've a few (around 7-9) bright blue stripes coming from the head (two usually cross the face as well) and flowing all the way to the caudal tip of the dorsal fin. Just above/behind the head they've a blue ring, hence the common name, making it an easy to identify and beautiful angelfish.

Like all other angelfish it's hermaphroditic and the most dominant fish will turn into a male when there is no other male around. If you do consider adding them to your tank, do keep in mind that they are usually quite dominant towards other angelfishes especially other Pomacanthus.
Most angelfish are not really reef safe and this one is no exception. As juveniles they mainly eat filamentous algae, but as adults sponges and tunicates are a staple part of their diet. Keeping them well fed seems to reduce the risk, so make sure to feed them a proper varied diet of algae and meaty foods to make them really happy. But do keep in mind that they may sooner or later start nipping/eating all sorts of corals (especially Zoanthus, LPS and clams). So best keep this fish in a fish-only tank or plan your corals well and accept the damage it can do.

This fish is Tank Bred and will adapt to your aquarium easier compared to a wild caught specimen!
