Scatophagus argus - T.B.
Scatophagus argus, commonly known as the Spotted scat, is a medium/large brackwater fish. Their base colour is greenish silver with more of a copper colour around the anal, dorsal and caudal fin. As they grow older, the spots faint. Their body shape is a little squarish and their first dorsal fin has venomous spikes.
As juveniles they can survive in fresh water, but already at a young age they need more and more salt to thrive. As adults they live in saltwater, only going back to brackish water to lay eggs. These fish are omnivorous and will eat worms, insects, shrimps, mussels but their main diet should contain plenty of algae and/or plant matter. So make sure to offer them a varied diet and add algae flakes/pellets on a regular basis.
This fish is Tank Bred and will adapts to your aquarium easier compared to a wild caught specimen!
