Xanthichthys caeruleolineatus, commonly known as the Outrigger triggerfish, is a large triggerfish. It's a rare fish in the hobby because it usually is only found in deeper waters. Males and females both have a yellowish-brown upper side and cream white lower side of the body, which are separated by a thin irregular electric blue line. Combined with some horizontal lines on the face, red edges on the caudal fin and the unusual triggerfish shape, this is an interesting fish. It's so rare however, that if you see it for sale, don't wait too long to make a decision!

The best thing about this triggerfish is probably that they're plankton feeders and thus quite reef safe. They'll eat anything floating in the water, but cleaners like snails, crabs, starfish and cucumbers are usually left alone. Cleaner shrimp are also uncommon to be bothered, smaller shrimps are not safe though. Even corals are seldom toughed and the only thing you need to keep in mind is that like most other triggerfishes they do sometimes move small rocks around which can land on a priced coral. All in all this fish is probably one of the best options if you want to add a triggerfish to your tank!
